Reserve repacking

Care for your reserve

Inspection, repacking and installation for the moment you hope never comes.

The reserve pictured was repacked by BTC in 2023 and later deployed during an SIV course.

Reserve care

Why repacking matters

A packed reserve can become compressed or trap moisture, sand or grit, which can damage the fabric and components. During repacks, we regularly find everything from compressed or damp-smelling reserves to perished elastic bands.

A fresh repack gives us the opportunity to inspect the complete system and check that your reserve is correctly packed and installed. It also offers peace of mind on long cross-country flights or during your SIV course.

Repack intervals

When should my reserve be repacked?

At BTC, we recommend repacking your reserve at least once a year, or better still, every six months. Always follow the repacking interval specified by your reserve’s manufacturer.

If your reserve becomes damp or wet, don’t leave it packed. It should be aired immediately and repacked only when completely dry, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Contact us if you’re unsure what to do.
